New technology with LASIK
What is iLASIK?
iLasik is new technology to have a 100% blade-free LASIK procedure.
LASIK is a two-step process. The first step is the creation of the corneal flap and the second step is the vision correction. The corneal flap may be created by using a blade (microkeratome) or by using the newest-generation, blade-free IntraLase laser.
Its more precise and predictable, IntraLase delivers micron-level accuracy, giving the surgeon even more control during the procedure and the ability to tailor the size, shape, and depth of the corneal flap complications.
The "Best of the Best": the combination of the most customized vision correction (CustomVue Wavefront) and the most customized flap creation (IntraLase) is called "iLASIK" and is the procedure recommended to those who qualify.
Another recent innovation in LASIK technology is Iris Registration (IR). Exclusive to the VISX laser, IR provides the most precise laser alignment to date, resulting in safer and more accurate surgical procedures, and even better outcomes.
Used only in combination with Wavefront treatment, IR is a fully automated, no-touch technology that allows us to create a "fingerprint" of your iris with microscopic detail and precision. During surgery, IR makes it possible to align the laser perfectly to the eye. Since no tow irises are the same, IR also ensures that the correct prescription is matched to the correct patient. No other technology offers this assurance.
Am I a candidate?
Only a thorough pre-operative examination by a qualified optometrist or ophthalmologist can determine your medical eligibility for the procedure, but general qualifications include:
-You must be eighteen or older.
-You must be nearsighted, farsighted, astigmatic, or a combination of these.
-You must require glasses or contacts for clear vision.
-You should be in good general health and not suffering from certain active eye diseases.
-You should not have an active inflammatory disease.
-You cannot have an active eye infection or retinal detachment.
-You cannot be taking certain medications.
-Your prescription must be stable over the year before surgery.
-You must not be pregnant or nursing - or anticipating to be pregnant or nursing - three months prior to or following surgery.
Lasik is a popular option for those wanting to be free of glasses and contacts. The newer technology makes it even safer and more appealing.
